This collection contains pulp magazines and regional literature from Argentine. The first pulp magazines were published in the 1870s and belonged to the Biblioteca criolla Robert Lehmann-Nitsche, the last titles appeared in the 1990s. Argentine Theater and Literary Periodicals

This unique collection is dedicated to a type of small-format periodical, containing plays, short novels and other literary texts, which used to be very popular in the Río de la Plata region during the first half of the 20th century. Go to collection

Glass Plates

The Ibero-American Institute's glass plate collection contains photographic documents of different types and origins from the period between around 1870 and 1940, including rare and largely unpublished documentary images that span the fields of archaeology, ethnography, history and regional geography. Publications of Vicente Quesada (1830-1913) and Ernesto Quesada (1858-1934)

This collection contains the publications of two outstanding characters of Argentinian political and cultural life. Vicente Gregorio Quesada (1830-1913) was a member of the national Parliament and Minister of the government in the province of Buenos Aires; a diplomat; as well as director of the National Library and initiator of editorial projects. His son Ernesto (1858-1934) was a lawyer, historian and social scientist, held important academic positions and is today known as one of the founders of the social sciences in Argentina. Papers of Hans Steffen (1865-1936)

The collection bequeathed by the German geographer Hans Steffen (1865-1936) contains important information on the geography and geology of the border region between Chile and Argentina as well as materials documenting ethnological research and scientific developments. Go to collection

Historical maps

The IAI is home to some 2,420 historical maps dating from before 1850 and facsimile editions of maps and atlases dating from 1525 to 1850, which form an integral part of the collection. These are mainly topographical depictions of individual regions and countries which reflect the level of cartographical knowledge at that time. The holdings also include pictures and maps of individual cities. This collection aims to give a complete overview of Central and South America, the Caribbean and the Iberian Peninsula. Zarzuela collection

The Zarzuela collection contains the libretti of Spanish and Hispanic American musicals and musical comedies, totaling over 1,600 titles which date back to the 19th and 20th centuries. The core of the collection comprises works which were printed in Spain between 1800 and 1930. The generic term "zarzuela" also encompasses genres such as entremeses and sainetes. In addition, the collection contains vocal and piano sheet music from the zarzuelas. Go to collection

Max Uhle was a German archaeologist and linguist. Max Uhle is viewed as the father of Peruvian archaeology and the founder of systematic archaeology in South America. Go to collection

Papers of Paul Ehrenreich (1855 - 1914)

Paul Ehrenreich (1855-1914) studied medicine and natural sciences in Berlin, Heidelberg and Würzburg. He worked as an ethnologist and physical anthropologist in North and South America, Mexico, India and Eastern Asia. Go to collection
